The project in detail
GinF aims to ensure that the natural significance of gender and diversity aspects are recognized and systematically taken into account in research. This furthers the goal of scientific excellence and underlines the requirement to make research relevant and useful for all sections of society.
Numerous examples from medical and technical reseach demonstrate the need to male research context dependent and gender sensitive in order to minimze misdiagnoses and technical limitations related to gender factors. The project also responds to developments in international research funding , which increasingly requires consideration of gender dimensions as a central quality criterion for research.
The project is interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary. It is aimed at scientists from ten Hamburg universities and non-university research institutions and actively involves business managers and consultants in research funding as well as experts in transfer and equality.
The project's needs-based measures are aimed at researchers, encouraging them to reflect specifically on the relevance of gender dimensions in their own research, identify potential gaps, and make adjustments as necessary. At the same time, the project aims to structurally anchor gender dimensions as a natural part of our research culture.
Cooperations in focus
The first phase of the project involves close cooperation with pioneers in medical research and with the clusters of excellence at the University of Hamburg.
